Verona in love: a romantic itinerary through the city

January 2025

When it comes to romantic atmosphere, Verona has no rivals. In this article we invite you to discover Verona’s most famous and enchanting locations through a curated itinerary, perfect for lovers.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, why not indulge in our exclusive Romantic Escape package? This offer also includes an aperitif for two, served in the stunning ambiance of our Arya Bar & Mixology. The perfect way to raise a toast to your loved one.

Taking a picture of Juliet’s Balcony

Nestled in Via Cappello, Juliet’s House is located in the heart of Verona and stands out as one of the city’s most famous attractions. Renowned for its legendary balcony, this location is an essential stop on any romantic itinerary. After all, Verona is the hometown of the protagonists of Romeo and Juliet, one of the most famous love stories in the history of literature. Juliet’s balcony is simply iconic, to say the least.

We recommend visiting the courtyard and Juliet’s House in the morning, when there are usually less tourists. The access to the courtyard is free of charge while the house-museum requires an entrance ticket.

Wandering along Via Sottoriva

Located in the heart of Verona’s old medieval district, via Sottoriva stretches from Ponte Nuovo to the Church of Sant’Anastasia. Here time seems to stand still, creating a more relaxed and romantic atmosphere that contrasts with that of the main streets.

This area is ideal for a stroll and offers many small traditional taverns and trattorias, perfect for lunchtime.

Discovering the Giusti Garden

Dating back to the 16th century, the Giusti Garden is the only Italian garden in Verona. It has also been appreciated by renowned figures such as Mozart, Goethe and Cosimo II de Medici.

A true Renaissance gem, the garden boasts extraordinary beauty with its tree-lined pathways, fountains, statues, and hedge maze. It also offers a wonderful view from its panoramic terrace, making it a perfect place to immerse yourself in history, nature, and a timeless romantic atmosphere.

Watching the sunset from Castel San Pietro

No romantic journey in Verona is complete without an unforgettable sunset. Castel San Pietro is the city’s best sunset spot, easily accessible either by a walk up the steps from Ponte Pietra, or via a ride on the funicular which will bring you to your destination in just a few minutes.

The view of the Adige river and the historic center at sunset will certainly become one of the most cherished moments of your stay in Verona.

Crossing Ponte Pietra

Ponte Pietra is Verona’s only remaining bridge from the Roman era. It is an ideal stop for a walk at any time of day, although the most romantic time is the evening, when the Adige river beautifully reflects the lights of the city.

Attending the Opera at the Arena

The best way to conclude a romantic day or weekend in Verona is to attend the Opera in the unrivaled setting of the Arena. The opera season usually takes place during the summer, but you can visit the Arena at any time of the year – regardless of the scheduled shows – with a regular entrance ticket.

Wine tasting in Valpolicella

If you have the opportunity, a trip to the nearby Valpolicella wine region is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Verona’s long and renowned winemaking tradition. We recommend checking out our dedicated article, What to do around Verona: visiting a winery in Valpolicella, which offers plenty of tips and useful information to plan your wine tasting.
